The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special has another famous secret cameo

James Gunn has been very busy this month in his new position as Co-CEO of DC Studios after being tapped by Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav and Peter Safran to helm their new imprint. Gunn recently revealed that all of his DC Universe projects will be interconnected including movies, television, animation, and video games. Before the end of next year, the director will end his work with Marvel Studios with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and those recently released Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. The latter of the two premiered on Disney+ last week, and according to reviews, it was a stellar entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With the introduction of Kevin Bacon, fans of Kevin Bacon did not expect another character to appear. When the actor first appears on screen, he’s talking to his wife and the voice on the phone happens to be Kyra Sedgwick.

Gunn will also be introducing his favorite Marvel Cinematic Universe character, with Backn appearing as himself in the special presentation. If you’re wondering if there are any other options if Bacon can’t show up, the director has an answer for you. During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gunn revealed that if the actor didn’t show up, MC Hammer would be the other option.

“Oh, I don’t know. Peter Quill was very young when he left Earth, so I’m not sure how conscious he was,” Gunn revealed. “When I was eight I knew who the Monkees were, but I don’t know who would have been famous in 1987 and who Peter would have loved when he was still on Earth. Maybe MC Hammer.”

Gunn and Safran both kicked off their jobs as co-CEOs of DC Studios at the beginning of the month, and it’s safe to say DC’s future looks bright. When the duo was announced by the head of Warner Bros. New Discovery, they released a statement about their excitement for the job.

“We are honored to be the stewards of the DC characters we have come to love since we were kids,” John and Safran added in a joint statement. “We look forward to collaborating with the world’s most talented writers, directors, and actors to create an integrated, multi-layered universe that still allows for individual expression by the artists involved. Our commitment to Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Harley Quinn, and the rest of DC’s characters is only equaled by our commitment to the wonders of human possibility that these characters represent. We are excited to revitalize the theatrical experience around the world as we tell some of the biggest, most beautiful, most amazing stories of all time.”

The latest Marvel Studios movie to hit theaters was Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. In the sequel, Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), Mabako (Winston Duke), Okoye (Danai Gurira) and Dora Milaje (including Florence Kasumba) fight to protect their nation from interference by world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death. As the Wakandans strive to embrace the next chapter, heroes must band together with the help of War Dog Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda. We haven’t yet seen where The Midnight Angels relates to the story.

The film stars Tenoch Huerta as Namor, king of a hidden nation under the sea, and the film also stars Dominic Thorne, Michaela Cowell, Mabel Cadena, and Alex Levanale. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Exclusively in theaters now!
